I'm so excited to have so many requests for personal recommendations from brides for their bridesmaids! Let's be real, you spend countless hours finding a dress your girls will actually {hopefully} love, so why not take the time to complete the look with fabulous accessories?
When it comes to your ‘maids, my #1 style tip: keep it consistent, but let your bridesmaids express their individuality. After all, you don't want them to look like adult sextuplets! Did you catch my Fun Finds post last Friday about well-dressed bridesmaids? If you didn't go back and have a look - the photo above is a capture, to give you an idea - there's a lot of great inspiration for creating coordinating / complimentary looks that let your friends' personalities {and thus their beauty} shine.
But that approach shouldn’t stop at their dresses. You’ve thought of everything else - don’t let your leading ladies’ moments fizzle down the aisle – remember your bridesmaids’ baubles! Besides making an amazing, sentimental gift, jewelry completes the look. So without further ado, here are my Top Five Bridesmaid Baubles Do’s:
- DO budget! Are you gifting all your girls? Either way, you'll need to decide how much is enough to complete the look without breaking the bank. If you have to choose just one piece of jewelry, always go with earrings. They can be worn with many outfits beyond the wedding a little easier, you don’t have to worry about fit, and they’re more visible.
- DO consider the cut and style of the gown. Your first style guide is the bodice of the dress. If you picked a one-shoulder gown, necklaces are very hard to pull off…correctly. Opt instead for an earrings and bracelet combo. Are there lots of embellishments and/or adornments near the face? Go for studs or small drop earrings. Are their pearls? Gold or silver accents? There’s so much to consider, but I think you get the idea {and I’m always happy to help with a personal recommendation}!
- DO different earrings for different face shapes*. Round faces need a little help elongating, so to make her look her best, go for long, skinny chandelier earrings that hit at or below the chin. Square faces need to soften angles, and curved pieces will help you achieve that. Heart-shaped faces need a balance for their slim chin; I like a pretty teardrop shape to add a little weight near the jawline. Oval faces have the most versatility; cancel out narrowness with wider studs or drop earrings.
- DO consider your bridesmaid’s personal style. Take a moment and think about each one of your bridesmaids’ personal style. My guess is you have a mix of fashionistas and fashion faux pas. Some may love accessorizing, while others feel out of their comfort zone wearing blingy baubles, which is exactly why it’s important to help make recommendations if you aren’t gifting. For the girl that loves to take center stage, let her have her wow moment in a statement piece and suggest a delicate drop earring for your shimmer-shy friend.
- DO choose pieces that blend with your wedding style. To really make your wedding style and vision cohesive, you have to think head-to-toe. If you’re theme is vintage, there’s lots of opportunity for fun, different, heirloom-esque pieces for each of your girls. Same idea goes with traditional to ultra modern: don’t forget, the jewelry should reflect the theme.
